Turner Prize 2024
- Dec 3, 2024, London, UK
The Turner Prize, named after J. M. W. Turner, an English painter, is an annual prize awarded to a talented British visual artist and was first awarded in 1984.
Turner, now deemed one of Great Britain’s greatest artists, was viewed as controversial at the time due to his unique approach to landscape painting.
Like all great artists do, his alternative style changed art history and inspired countless artists after him.
Every year, a talented artist will receive a prize for creating “an outstanding exhibition or other presentation of their work.”
The prestigious prize, like Turner, hasn’t shied away from controversy over the years, shortlisting bold exhibits.
For instance, it famously featured Tracy Emin’s My Bed, an exhibition of a dishevelled bed, and Damian Hirst’s The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living, which was a preserved tiger shark in formaldehyde.
