Stephen Sommer’s The Mummy (1999) is a loose remake of the classic 1932 movie of the same name.
However, it swapped horror for action, creating an adventure-packed flick filled with comedy, special effects, and Egyptian lore.
As the movie enjoyed much success at the box office, grossing over $416.4 million worldwide, it was followed by another two installments: The Mummy Returns (2001) and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008).
While various spin-off series were produced, fans have been eagerly awaiting a fourth installment of the film, and rumor has it fans will not need to wait long to catch The Mummy 4 in a movie theater near them.

When Will The Mummy 4 Be Released?
According to Hollywood insider Daniel Richtman, The Mummy 4 is currently in development at Universal Studios, and rumor has it that it could arrive in movie theaters as early as 2025.
However, the studio remains tight-lipped about the installment, meaning fans may need to wait patiently for its potential release.
Who is Set to Star in The Mummy 4?
It has been reported that original cast members Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz will reprise their roles as Rick O’Connell and Evelyn Carnahan from the trilogy.
Weisz refused to return to The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, as it was claimed she wasn’t happy with the movie script.
Despite her noticeable absence in the third flick, Weisz and Fraser are eager to return for a fourth installment.
Since winning an Academy Award for Best Actor in The Whale (2022), Brendan Fraser has expressed he would be more than happy to return to the franchise.
If the rumors are true, it is possible other former cast members could return, such as John Hannah (Jonathan Carnahan), Dwayne Johnson (Mathayus), and Michelle Yeoh (Zi Yuan).
If Fraser and Weisz don’t reprise their famous roles, the studio may turn to a younger set of actors to attract a younger audience and refresh the much-loved series.
Will The Mummy 4 be a Box Office Hit?
If the past is anything to go by, The Mummy 4 is likely to perform well at the box office.
As mentioned earlier, The Mummy earned an incredible $417.4 million internationally, while The Mummy Returns proved the most fruitful, generating an impressive $435 million worldwide. Also, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor earned a healthy $405.8 million.
Of course, ticket prices have increased since 2008, meaning it wouldn’t be surprising for the number to be much higher. Also, the franchise might have earned many younger fans who will happily visit movie theaters to watch the fourth installment.
There will be much pressure on the fourth flick to perform well at the box office, as the Tom Cruise-led reboot performed abysmally in 2017, reportedly costing the studio $95 million.
