History of The Golden Raspberry Awards

In simple terms, the Golden Raspberry Awards is a parody awards show.

It honors the absolute worst in cinematic failures, and the idea came from a group of film graduates at UCLA, who paired up with film industry veterans John J. B Wilson and Mo Murphy.

Why is it called the Golden Raspberry Awards? Well, the wording is chosen to represent blowing a raspberry, which often happens when someone is watching a film with a ridiculous plot!

Oddly, the first Razzies took place on March 31, 1981, in a living room in Hollywood! The most common winner of the Golden Raspberry Awards to date is Sylvester Stallone, who currently holds 12 Razzies.

The winners of the Golder Raspberry Award will receive a statuette of a golf ball-sized raspberry, which is on top of a film reel. This sits on top of a jar lid that is spray-painted gold.
