OK, it’s not a common thing to be a fan of, but in October 2024, the Queensland state is set to elect all of the members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland.
Due to the 2016 Queensland term length referendum, whoever wins the election will have a term that will run for four years.
The Labor government is aiming to win a fourth consecutive term against the Liberal National Party, which is currently being led by David Crisafulli. They are also aiming to win against the Queensland Greens, Pauline Hanson’s One Nation and the Legalise Cannabis Queensland party.
After nine years of Labor rule, the polls are pointing to a potential shake up of the government at the October election.

Who Are The Candidates?
Labor Premier Steven Miles will face LNP opposition leader David Crisafulli at the October election. Seats will be contested by Labor, LNP, Greens, One Nation, Katter’s Australian Party, other parties and independent candidates.
Who Can Vote in the Queensland Elections?
Anybody who is residing in Queensland who is aged 18 years old or over can vote in this state election. Residents can vote in person or via a postal vote.
When Do Residents Need to Vote and Is Voting Mandatory?
If a citizen of Queensland is over the age of 18, it is compulsory for them to vote in the Queensland state election. There is also the option for pre-poll voting, which will open two weeks before the polling day. Voting is due to close at 6pm on October 26.
What Are the Key Seats?
For the LNP to win, they have to win 14 seats off of Labor to form the majority government. These seats are Bundaberg, Nicklin, Hervey Bay, Caloundra, Townsville, Barron River, Thuringowa, Redlands, Aspley, Redcliffe, Mundingburra, Pumicestone, Cairns and Keppel.
What Kind of Results Coverage Can be Expected?
Once the voting is over at 6pm, the polls will close, and the counting of the votes will start. Of course, if the competition is won quickly, Queensland residents could know the results within hours. However, if it is a tighter contest, it could take longer.
The Courier-Mail will have the results direct from the Electoral Commission of Queensland (ECQ), and the platform will also be running a live blog, which will offer viewers minute-by-minute coverage.
What Have the Previous Election Results Been?
The Labor Party is potentially looking at a rare fourth election victory.
The previous election was won by Annastacia Palaszczuk. She took the position in 2015 from Campbell Newman.
