What is Mufasa: The Lion King’s Release Date?

Mufasa: The Lion King will be released in movie theaters worldwide on December 20, 2024.

What’s the Plot?

Mufasa: The Lion King starts with Rafiki, the mandrill, telling the story of Mufasa and Taka following the events of The Lion King (2019). Rafiki tells Kiara, Simba and Nala’s daughter, the story of her grandparents.

It follows the story of Mufasa, an orphan, who becomes friends with Taka, a young prince, and he’s soon adopted into his family, with the pair growing up as brothers. Of course, Timon and Pumbaa add commentary for a splash of fun.

Who Are the New and Returning Cast Members?

Donald Glover and Beyonce Knowles-Carter will reprise their roles as Simba and Nala. Also, Billy Eichner and Seth Rogan will return to voice Timon and Pumbaa, and John Kani will again be Rafiki.

New cast members have joined the prequel, too, such as Aaron Pierre as Mufasa, Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Scar/Taka, and Tiffany Boone as Sarabi.

You’re likely to recognize the voices of Mads Mikkelsen and Thandiwe Newton, as they have been cast as Kiros and Eshe.

Also, Blue Ivy Carter, Beyonce’s daughter, will make her feature film debut in the 2024 movie.

Who Wrote and Directed Mufasa: The Lion King?

Jeff Nathanson wrote the screenplay for Mufasa: The Lion King. He is known for writing some of the biggest movies on the silver screen, such as Catch Me If You Can (2002), The Terminal (2004), and the live-action remake of The Lion King (2019).

The movie was directed by Barry Jenkins, who is best known for various critically acclaimed films and TV shows, such as Moonlight (2016), Dear White People (2017), and The Underground Railroad (2021).

How Much Did Mufasa: The Lion King Cost to Make?

The official production cost hasn’t been released, but it is believed Mufasa: The Lion King cost more than $200 million to make.

However, it is predicted to earn an impressive $750 million at the box office, providing the movie with a superb return. However, it could potentially exceed the amount at the box office and might beat other popular movies, such as Inside Out 2, Deadpool 3, and Moana 2.
