Who is on the Judging Panel?
The judging panel consists of various literary experts who provide different perspectives when choosing a shortlisted author and the eventual winner.
Edmund de Waal, an English author, is the chair of the Booker Prize 2004. Sitting on the judging panel are novelist Sara Collins, producer and composer Nitin Sawhney, writer Yiyub Li, and The Guardian’s fiction editor Justine Jordan.
What is the Judging Criteria?
The Booker Prize can only be presented to an author who has released a single work of sustained fiction. Also, it must have been written in English and have been published in the United Kingdom or Ireland.
For a novel to qualify for the Booker Prize 2024, it must have been published between October 1, 2023, and September 30, 2024, in the UK or Ireland.

James by Percival Everett is the favorite to win the Booker Prize 2024. The novel is a fresh spin on the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain and is written from the perspective of his friend, James, an escaped slave.
If James doesn’t win, Stone Yard Devotion by Australian writer Charlotte Wood is the next likely author to receive the literary away.
The book is simple in premise, offering a story of a middle-aged woman who leaves Sydney for the Outback, but it offers big themes of forgiveness, grief, and friendship.
What Will the Winner Receive?
The winning novelist of the Booker Prize 2024 will receive £50,000 and a trophy named Iris, which is named after the winner, Iris Murdoch.
