What Do Critics Say About the Movie?
All We Imagine as Light has received a perfect score of 100 out of 72 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and has an average rating of 9/10.
Top movie critics have heaped praise on the film for its story, characters, performances, and depiction of Mumbai.
For instance, Justin Chang from the New Yorker wrote the following review, “As the first Indian feature invited to compete at Cannes in nearly three decades, Payal Kapadia’s narrative début would be notable enough; that the movie is so delicately felt and sensuously textured is cause for outright celebration.”
Also, Peter Rainer from Christian Science Monitor said, “High among the film’s many standout virtues is how fully Kapadia has captured the faces of this trio. This is her first dramatic feature, and no doubt her previous background as a documentarian helped account for such searching portraiture.”
The flick has won many awards following its world premiere at the Cannes International Film Festival, too.
In addition to winning the prestigious Grand Prix, All We Imagine as Light won the Prix des Cinémas Art et Essai – Special Mention at the festival.
Plus, it won the Silver Hugo – Jury Prize at the Chicago International Film Festival and the Fiction Feature Prize at the Montclair Film Festival.
What’s more, it has received various nominations at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards, the Gotham Awards, and the British Independent Film Awards.
