London Mayoral Election 2028
- Jan 31, 2028, London, UK
London. The capital of the UK has one of the most diverse populations in Europe, and being a historical city with a lot of trendy and upcoming areas like Canary Wharf, it is also considered a bustling hub of business and politics around the world.
Of course, in the world of politics, it is also a base of impact, with many politicians in the UK and, indeed, Europe citing it as proof of political influence. So, it stands to reason that the Mayor of London has to be smart, savvy, and worldly to ensure the capital is in good standing.
The current Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has had an up-and-down approval rating with the residents of London, and as he is hoping to be re-elected in 2028, he may need to put in some work to get that rating up. Or is London ready to move away from a Labour mayor?
1xBet’s odds of 2.1 predict a 47.62% chance that the current Labour Mayor of London will be re-elected in the London Mayoral Election 2028::: Discover the current Odds now HERE
The Political Outlook in London 2025
With the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, winning the seat in 2024 and Prime Minister Keir Starmer winning the General Election in 2024, you could argue that Labour is secure in the UK.
However, in late 2024, a petition was put forward to hold an early General Election, as those who had voted for Labour felt that Keir Starmer had not lived up to election promises. This was the catalyst that both the Conservatives and the upcoming Reform UK needed to start trying to get the UK electorate on their side.
Is Sadiq Khan Likely to be Re-Elected?
As the election is currently three and a half years away, it is hard to say.
The polls on YouGov suggest that Sadiq Khan, at the time of writing, has an approval rating of 20 percent and is ‘disliked’ by 54 percent. Howard Cox, the candidate who represented Reform UK in the 2024 mayoral election, has a 13 percent approval rating, and Conservative opposition Susan Hall has a 14 percent approval rating.
So, even if Khan is not as popular as he once was, he is currently more popular than his opponents in the polls.
Potential Candidates
Of course, it is hard to say if previous candidates will re-run for the mayoral election in 2028.
When Sadiq Khan won the election in 2024, the names of potential opponents were released, including:
- Stella Creasy- Labour MP for Walthamstow
- Florence Eshalomi- Labour MP for Vauxhall and Camberwell Green
- Dawn Butler- Labour MP for Brent and former Shadow Minister.
When is the 2028 London Mayoral Election?
At the time of writing, all that is known is that the next London mayoral election will take place in 2028.
