The Auction of the Rude Snowman Signed by ‘Raymond Briggs’

  • Oct 31, 2024, Los Angeles, California, USA

Many world-famous artists seek inspiration from other artists. For instance, René Magritte influenced Andy Warhol, Henri Matisse inspired Paul Cezanne, and Raymond Briggs seemingly inspired Banksy to create a rude Christmas card.

Like most of Banksy’s works, the artwork provides a humorous image making a political comment, and the rare Rude Snowman Christmas card is no exception.

On the front panel of the card, Banksy features an explicit version of The Snowman, the character Briggs originally illustrated for the classic 1978 book and the 1982 animated movie.

Under the image, Banksy jokingly autographed Raymond Brigg’s name, suggesting he is the illustrator, and the card is housed in an ornate wooden frame.

Banksy said of the card, “At this time of year, it’s easy to forget the true meaning of Christianity – the lies, the corruption, the abuse.”

It was recently announced that the Rude Snowman card signed by ‘Raymond Briggs’ will soon be sold at auction. Continue reading for more details.
