What is the Broadcast Date for The Newsreader Season 3?

ABC Television has yet to announce a broadcast date for season three of The Newsreader but confirmed the award-winning drama will return in 2025.

As season one of the hit show aired in August 2021 and season two broadcast in September 2023, it is likely to follow a similar schedule.

What’s the Plot?

According to a press release announcing the series commission, season three of The Newsreader will position Dale, played by Sam Reid (Interview with a Vampire), as “the King of News”.

Also, Helen, played by Anna Torv (Mindhunter), will have earned “great acclaim” for her international reporting; however, her relationship with former lover Dale will be tested now they’re in direct competition.

For instance, they will go against one another to secure coverage of various historical international events, such as the Exxon Valdez oil spill in Alaska in 1989, the Tiananmen Square Massacre, the fall of the Berlin Wall, and Apartheid boycotts.

It is believed the hit drama will open with the characters attending the prestigious Logie Awards on March 17, 1989.

Who Will Star in the Third Season?

Many original cast members are expected to reprise their roles, including Sam Reid and Anna Torv, who played the famous co-anchors.

William McInnes will return as ratings-addict Lindsay Cunningham, Michelle Lim Davidson will reprise her role as the underappreciated Noelene Kim, and Marg Downey will step back into the savvy shoes of Evelyn Walters.

Also, the following cast members will likely return: Chum Ehelepola, Robert Taylor, Chai Hansen, Rory Fleck Byrne, Stephen Peacocke, Daniel Gillies, and Philippa Northeast.

Will Season 3 Be the The Newsreader’s Last?

Unfortunately, season three is likely to be The Newsreader’s last. The news was initially announced in April 2024 by Chris Oliver-Taylor, a chief content officer at ABC, and it was confirmed by the network and Michael Lukas, the show’s creator, in June 2024.

According to Lucas, he had always seen “this saga as three acts, and the coming series is designed as an emotional and cathartic third act for the whole vivid ensemble, which will be very clear to audiences when they see it.”

Is The Newsreader Critically Acclaimed?

Yes. The Newsreader has won multiple awards since its first season, such as Best Drama Series at the 13th AACTA Awards and Most Outstanding Drama Series and Most Popular Drama Program at the 2022 Logie Awards.

What’s more, season two of the ABC show has been nominated for Best Drama Series at the International Emmy Awards 2024.

Can I Watch an Official Trailer?

Sadly, there isn’t an official trailer for The Newsreader season three yet. It will likely drop closer to the show’s broadcast date.

Until it airs in 2025, you can get your fix of The Newsreader by rewatching the first two seasons.

If you believe The Newsreader will win Outstanding Drama Series at the International Emmy Awards 2024, you could win $237.50 by betting $100 at 1xBet if it happens.
