The Imagen Awards honors groundbreaking Latina and Latino performances, storytelling, and productions in television and film.
The event was born from a meeting between Helen Hernandez, the president of the Imagen Foundation, and Norman Lear, an iconic TV writer and producer.
Aware of the absence of positive portrayals of Latinos and Latinas in entertainment, the duo met with the National Conference for Community and Justice leaders, which resulted in the creation of the Imagen Awards in 1985.
